Our first week was spent working with four different groups of students. Monday and Tuesday morning, we worked with the upper level students of ISM (International Scholastic Model) Quito. Each afternoon, we worked with the scholarship students, who come from underprivileged homes. These younger students’ English was not as strong, but their excitement let us know they were glad we were there!

Because Thursday was the Day of the Child, we started our day watching soccer games between the students and the ISM North staff. The whole school was cheering on the staff in both games. It was fun to join in! After the school games, we began teaching. On this campus, we taught a short lesson to most of the middle and high school students on Thursday and Friday.

Friday evening, we returned to the camp where we had been staying to host an overnight camp for students from USM Quito and ISM North. The camp was filled with scavenger hunts, relay games, and, of course, soccer! After the lunch on Saturday, the students all received letters from their parents and were given the opportunity to write back.

Our first week created a love for the Ecuadorian students that will stay with us forever!
